Better internet connectivity for those on the ground at Batang Kali - Fahmi promise

HULU SELANGOR - Communications and Digital Ministry promises better internet connectivity at the surrounding Batang Kali landslide location in Selangor tonight onwards.

Its minister Fahmi Fadzil said various telecommunication companies, namely Telekom Malaysia, Celcom, Digi, UMobile had Maxis had sent out equipment today at around 2pm to improve internet connectivity but faced various technical problems.

He said the companies were struck geographical issues earlier today and were looking at placing fibre optic infrastructure to provide WiFi to all media personnel and rescue teams present on the ground as soon as possible.

He said the telcos have been called to sit down with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to expedite the process and provide better digital connectivity.

“I will get the full report on the matter and will ensure full cooperation from all mobile operators to ensure no more repeats of this (no phone and internet line).

“We hope internet access will be prepared soonest for everyone here.

“I am aware of the situation and will bring it up to the Cabinet,” he said tonight during his visit here.

Also present with Fahmi was MCMC Selangor Director Rizal Abd Malek.
