Batang Kali landslide: fatigued Norazam hospitalised, suffered minor stroke

SHAH ALAM - Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis has been admitted to Selayang Hospital after suffering a minor stroke and fatigue at 6pm today.

Nontheless, his condition was under control and that he still conscious.

“However, the operation to search for victims [of the Batang Kali landslide] is still ongoing”, read a statement from the department.

The search and rescue (SAR) has entered its fourth day and as of 4.45 pm, there had been no progress on the discovery of newer victims underneath the rubble of loose soil.

The rescuers have been working tirelessly to locate the victims of the landslide tragedy that struck at 2.42 am last Friday at a hillside campsite called Father’s Organic Farm in Batang Kali.

So far the tragedy has claimed the lives of 24 individuals with nine of them still missing. There are a total of 61 survivors.

Previously, Norazam was reported of describing the Batang Kali tragedy was the worst landslide he had ever seen throughout his 23 years of service.
