Terengganu records over 40,000 flood victims

KUALA TERENGGANU - Flood victims in Terengganu continue to increase with 40,456 victims recorded today, compared to 39,500 on Tuesday.

The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat stated as of 8am on today (Wednesday), these victims from 11,197 families were placed in 299 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in eight districts.

In a statement earlier, it said the Kemaman district recorded the highest number of victims with 9,147 followed by Besut (8,536), Hulu Terengganu (5,893), Setiu (4,352), Dungun (4,419), Kuala Nerus (3,597), Kuala Terengganu (2,777) and Marang (1,735).

It added the weather conditions in the state currently show rainfall in several areas.

Based on their official website publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my that was updated at 7.45am earlier, showed five rivers in Terengganu were over the dangerous levels.

The Dungun River at the Jerangau Bridge showed a rising trend of 13.5 metres (m) exceeding the dangerous level (12.5m).

Two other rivers had risen over the dangerous levels with a trend of waters subsiding at Telemong River in Kuala Ping, Hulu Terengganu and Kemaman River at the Paya Paman Pump in Kemaman.

Nerus River in Kampung Jeram, Kuala Nerus showed over the dangerous levels without any signs of subsiding while Nerus River in Kampung Langkap, Setiu were seem to be subsiding.
