RANTAU PANJANG - Flood victims currently housed at Gual Periok temporary evacuation centre (PPS) requested bacis needs such as sanitary pads, disposable diapers and clean water after the roads connecting to it had been flooded.

The Gual Periok PPS had suffered electricity cut and some 1,316 flood victims from 513 families here, relied on flood waters to shower and clean up themselves.

Flood victim, Mastura Abdullah, 32, said the flood this time was seemed unusual when the waters had risen quickly.

"We could only bring what was in arm's length. Now, we are suffering as isn't enough sanitary pads, disposable diapers, baby milk and clean water.

"There authorities who gave bottled water for consumptiom previously, but it was all exhausted as the number of victims are increasing," she said to reporters when contacted on Thursday.

She said due to power cuts they are unable to contact people, the victims here were unable to make communications with the people outside.

"Phone services were bad hence calls can't be made or received. Even food which was given three times a day, now reduced to only twice.

"We understand the situation now is difficult since the roads were all flooded.

"However, we hope there are authorities who could provide immediate aid because our situation here is critical, especially for baby milk, disposable diapers and sanitary pads," she said.
