Floods: Man's 60 goats and sheep drowned in floods

BESUT - Sixty goats and sheeps drowned in the flood which hit Kampung Padang Buluh, Jertih last Sunday.

Mat Rusdi Kadi, 55, the owner of the livestocks said 33 goats and 27 sheeps had died, trapped inside their pen as water rose up to two metres high.

"The water was rising in the area at about 10am but by 11.30am, water had risen so quickly.

"I was only able to one goat and its three (goat) kid to safety while the rest were unfortunately trapped inside their pen," he said when contacted by Sinar on Thursday.

The Kelantan Environment Department (JAS) Assistant Environmental Control Officer said his house in Kampung Padang Buluh was once flooded because it was located close to the Jajar Dam.

However, the previous occurences was not as bad as the flood which hit on Sunday.

"Previously, the water which entered was only knee-deep, we didn't expect floods this time to rise up to two-metres high inside the house," he added.

Sharing his unfortunate ordeal, Mat Rusdi said he and his family of eight were only able to take shelter in a birdhouse nearby at 4am as the water continued to rise about 4am.

"We couldn't sought the help for rescuers as the current were to strong. Two rescue boats attempted to save us but had to turn back as the current was to strong.

"We were forced to wait until the water subsided before returning home on Tuesday morning," he said.

Rusdi said the estimated losses he had suffered losses amounting to RM20,000.
