KUALA LUMPUR - Traffic flow was reported to be smooth on all main highways and expressways except for congestion at a number of hotspots as of 9 pm tonight.

The volume of traffic on all highways and expressways increased significantly today as city folks headed to their respective hometowns ahead of the Christmas festival which will be celebrated by the Christian community throughout the country tomorrow while others seem to have taken the opportunity to return home and be with their loved ones due to the school holidays and long weekend.

A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesman said traffic congestion was reported along the North-bound Plus Expressway from Bidor to Gopeng and from Alor Pongsu to Sungai Bakap.

The spokesman said for South-bound traffic, congestion was reported from Bukit Tagar to Bukit Beruntung, Senawang to Simpang Ampat and from Kempas to Pasir Gudang.

"Traffic flow along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway, East Coast Expressway 1 and 2 is smooth on both directions,” he told Bernama when contacted tonight.

Meanwhile, a visit by Bernama to the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza, Jalan Duta and Gombak Toll Plazas, the main entry and exit routes to the city, saw smooth traffic flow. - BERNAMA
