Dirty restaurants? Shut them down for 14 days, says Perak exco

Human Resources, Health and Community Affairs exco A Sivanesan said the action could be implemented under the Food Act 1983.
He said the move is to ensure eateries are kept clean.
"I warn all food operators in Perak especially 24-hour restaurants to keep their premises clean. Their main argument is the lack of workers but they could still operate round the clock.
"Previously, we issue 14-day closure notice but they could reopen after inspections are made by health officers. However, we will now immediately close it for 14 days and the health officers will inspect it on the 13th day for an inspection," he said at the press conference in the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building, here, on Tuesday.
He said the move was to teach operators a lesson on not to compromise with health.
Sivanesan added they were conducting a case study on food sold in the cafeterias of five hospitals in Perak, namely Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB), Taiping Hospital, Manjung Hospital, Teluk Intan Hospital and Batu Gajah Hospital.
He said the case studies were done to see whether the food sold in the hospital cafeterias were nutritious enough.
