Rat droppings, cockroaches found in food premises in S'gor

Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) Director Rahilah Rahmat said the inspection, which was carried out under "Tom Yam and Night Food Operation," had instructed the premises to close for 14 days under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.
"MPKS had instructed the restaurant owners to perform immediate and extensive cleaning before the restaurants could reopen," she said in a statement on Wednesday.
Rahilah said the surprise inspections were conducted by MPKS to ensure food premises are adopting guidelines set by the environmental health department and meals are prepared in a clean and hygienic environment.
Such unexpected checks will be expanded in the near future to ensure that food premises operators adopt and practise cleanliness.
Rahilah said the operations, which were initiated in May, targeted all food premises in the district.
She said 77 food premises were inspected, 162 compounds were issued, and 18 violation notices were released.
"The offences violated the Licensing Business, Trade, and Industrial Bylaws (MKDS) 2007, Food Handling Bylaws (MDKS) 2007, and the Food Establishment Licensing Bylaws (MDKS) 2007 under the jurisdiction of MPKS.
"Meanwhile, the Food Act 1983, the Food Regulations 1985 and the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 are under the jurisdiction of the Health Ministry," she said.
