SHAH ALAM - Kamal Abd Aziz is appointed as the Federal Territories Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) acting chief with immediate effect.

Kamal who was the deputy chief will replace Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan, who announced his resignation on Dec 20.

Pejuang President, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir announced this through an official letter shared on Wednesday.

Mukhriz said the central executive council (MEP), which convened in a special meeting on Dec 22, had given him the mandate to consider and subsequently appoint the Federal Territories Pejuang acting chief.

"Therefore, I hereby appoint Kamal as acting chief with immediate effect.

"Hopefully, with this appointment, he will be contribute to moving the party at the state level based on the party's principles and constitution for the sake of this beloved religion, nation and homeland," he said.

Previously, Sinar Harian reported that Khairuddin's resignation as federal territories chief was due to loss of faith in the leadership of the president.

He explained that his service in Pejuang is no longer relevant after the resignation of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as chairman on Dec 16.

Mukhriz said, based on Clause 11.2 of the Pejuang constitution, MEP has the authority to establish a state leadership council for each state to determine its course.
