SHAH ALAM - The Fire and Rescue Department lost a dedicated officer following the death of Rawang fire station chief Abd Aziz Usoff on Wednesday.

The department’s chief Datuk Norazam Khamis said Abd Aziz was one of the members of the search and rescue (SAR) team in the recent landslide tragedy in Batang Kali.

He said Abd Aziz who was 49, died due to a heart attack at about 7.55am.

“He was an officer who is dedicated and committed in carrying out his duty and responsibility especially during fire and rescue operations.

“In fact, he was among the earliest who arrived at the scene in Batang Kali to assist in the SAR operations although the tragedy was not under his jurisdiction,” Norazam said on Thursday.

He said Abd Aziz was survived by his wife Siti Mardhiah Nayan@Ahmad and four sons.

Norazam said the deceased who was from Kampung Banggol Penyegat, Karangan in Kulim, Kedah had served for the department for 15 years.

“His remains was buried at the Masjid Jamek Al Ittihad Muslim Cemetery in Kulim at about 9.30pm, yesterday (Wednesday),” he said.
