SHAH ALAM - Umno Supreme Working Council (MKT) member Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah insisted that there was no pressure within the party as made up by certain parties.

However, he said, to nurture democratic practices in the party was important for the continuity of a political institution.

"At the moment, there is no pressure as rumoured, it is just several quarters in the party being mischievous.

"Thus, democracy (within) the party is very important for a political institution.

"As the oldest political party in the country's history, it is very important for us to show Malaysians how Umno promotes democracy in elections.

"So, it is very important for Umno to continue to nurture democracy in the next election to ensure that grassroots voices are (presented) in the next leadership election," he told Sinar Harian.

Armand insisted that with democratic practices, Umno would continue to remain relevant to the grassroots thus giving confidence to the people.

"I am confident that the representatives are now mature, wise and firm in evaluating (the future leadership) to determine the future of Umno to continue to remain relevant in the country," he said.
