KUALA LUMPUR - The government assures that it will protect and help small and medium industries (SMEs) in dealing with the resurgence of Covid-19 in China.

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said the government will help SMEs as best it can in facing the situation.

"For example, SMEs are completely exempted from electricity tariffs.

"Likewise, last week's gas tariff was also slightly reduced," he said.

Rafizi said this to the media after the People'sPandan Parliament's gathering here on Saturday.

He added that the government is closely monitoring the situation in China because it will affect the whole world including Malaysia.

"It also includes the sudden increase in prices of certain goods because most of the manufacturing activities go in and out of China.

"If the Covid-19 situation in China has an impact on the economy in China, of course there will be an impact in our country," he stressed.

Rafizi further said that apart from the government, companies in this country were also closely following the Covid-19 situation.

"I hope the situation in China is under control. We should also strengthen actions to reduce the impact if affected," he explained.
