KUALA LUMPUR - Umno will look into introducing "airtight" anti-hopping laws to stop party MPs from supporting politicians from other parties, said Umno Supreme Council Isham Jalil stated.

He said there are loopholes in its laws at the moment.

“Anti-hopping laws were implemented the other day but it is not airtight.

“If someone does not hop to another party but he supports people from another party, then what do we do?” Isham said during an interview with Sinar Daily at Menara Datuk Onn, today.

He said according to the contract signed by Umno members previously, they would lose their position if they supported others from a different party.

“We are lucky to have this mechanism, if not, maybe right now, a few of our MPs would support others," he said.

Isham said an act has to be legislated so that the anti-hopping laws were an official law in the party and not just a contract between an individual and the party.

“So when it becomes a law, then it will be stronger to ensure political stability," he said, adding that it will also help to boost Malaysian economy and stability.
