SHAH ALAM - Bersatu Youth Chief, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal told Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to choose football over Jay Chou concert.

In a media report, he said Yeoh should use her power as a minister to rectify the situation, despite the venue booking for the concert was done four years ago.

Wan Fayhsal said in the 2018 AFF Cup semi-finals, a total of 87,545 fans attended the match compared to this time as 21,000 seats had to be sacrificed following the installation work of the Jay Chou concert stage structure.

"Why this entertainment concert by a Taiwanese singer so important compared to the dignity of national sports and the will of Harimau Malaya supporters? This is time we want to foster national unity and patriotism through sports, especially football," he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Yeoh rebutted Wan Ahmad's statement on the official Twitter account and told him to check his facts.

"If you want to make a statement, put some effort into checking the facts first.

"For matters like this, the minister’s power cannot be misused, and Jay Chou’s concert is a world tour that has already sold 45,000 tickets.

"In addition to that, Axiata Arena can only fit 13,000 people," she says with a hint of sarcasm.

Previously, the media reported that Wan Ahmad questioned why the concert was prioritised instead of the first semi-final of the AFF Cup.

Hannah also explained why 21,000 seats in the Bukit Jalil National Stadium were vacated to prepare for the Taiwanese singer’s concert on the same date.

She further explained the location of the concert was decided in March 2019, and it was impossible to change it last minute.
