Sabah doesn't need a new CM or a new govt: Pandikar

The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) deputy chairman said he was peeved by the actions of some senior leaders in the GRS-Barisan Nasional (BN) government who were attempting to topple Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He also described the attempt to overthrow Hajiji on Thursday as an act that affects the person's own image if seen in terms of political experience and maturity.
"However, their attempts are useless because Sabah doesn't need a new chief minister or a new government led by anyone.
"The current chief minister and his current line of ministers are sufficient if those concerned sincerely carry out their respective responsibilities for the benefit of the people," he said in a statement on Friday.
Pandikar added that Hajiji is qualified to be the head of the state government based on his extensive experience in administration and as a representative of the people.
"In the political world, Hajiji is a person who has an inclusive attitude; he is never seen to be hostile, humiliating, or even showing off his power. This is because he prioritises totality and equality.
"But as an analogy, even if a 'captain' is loaded with navigational knowledge and so on, the ship captained by him will not reach the destination safely if the other officers do not help their captain, but instead usurp his authority as captain," he said.
The former Dewan Rakyat speaker also said that since independence, Sabah has been led by various individuals from various political parties.
"However, until now, Sabah's economic and political situation is still not something to be proud of, even though most of the leaders who led then and now have immense administrative experience and have various skills in addition to being highly educated.
"This failure is due to the government's 'toppling one another" habit, which resulted in a similar situation as before," he said.
Therefore, Pandikar urged leaders in the state to help Hajiji carry out his responsibilities and focus specifically on the stability of the Sabah government.
"Overthrowing the chief minister and making Parti Warisan the backbone of the Sabah government just to get a few portfolios is an unwise move, and I consider it a fraught experience that has gone far astray," he added.
