DBKL launches e-assessment, property system

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah said the system was developed to make it easy for owners to use online services more effectively and faster.
"Applicants need only register as system users, update their personal information such as identification card number and phone number, as well as upload attachments and submit it for approval.
"Approval will be within a working day of receiving completed applications,” he told reporters after launching the system here today.
He added that the system made it easier for the public to deal with DBKL via broadband to handle ownership name or address changes for their assessment tax.
"This is important to ensure that the owners’ names are updated as new legal owners and all notices or assessment tax are sent to the owner accurately.
"Failure to inform the local authorities about the sale or transfer of property can be fined no more than RM2,000 or punished with six months’ jail or both,” Mahadi added.
Under Section 60 of the Local Government Act 1967, sellers and those transferring or receiving property must inform the local authorities within three months after the sale or transfer.
"It is DBKL’s objective to reduce and eliminate physical applications after this,” he said, adding that they did not plan to review the assessment tax rate in Kuala Lumpur.
As a matured city, Kuala Lumpur has a sustainable system to determine the rates that property owners have to pay.
On Dec 22, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a 30 per cent discount on assessment tax for properties under RM300,000 in Putrajaya from Jan 1, which is expected to benefit over 8,500 households. - BERNAMA
