SHAH ALAM - The government must immediately take action regarding the attempts of certain parties to invoke fear in the judiciary regarding a politicians case that was tried in court last year.

The attempts were exposed by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat recently.

Former Selangor and Federal Territories Rasuah Busters chairman Wan Azliana Wan Adnan said the alleged attempts should not have happened and a thorough investigation should be made by the authorities.

“It is right for the government to be concerned regarding the alleged attempts to threaten the judiciary and a thorough investigation should be done by the authorities.

“The actions should not happen in Malaysia that is known as a prosperous country.

“ The person or party responsible for threatening the judiciary has gone overboard because thet are trying to overcome the the judicial power and set justice aside,” she told Sinar on Monday.

Azliana who was a lawyer said threatening a judge is considered unforgivable.

She said this was not only an issue of injustice, but what was worse is the offender is free and the image of the country has been tainted.

Selangor and Federal Territories Rasuah Busters Secretary-General Mohammad Amar Masuri said the judiciary should be free of any political intervention.

" A trial is usually a long journey filled with arguments and evidence based on the country’s laws.

“A judicial process is not decided on a whim without evidence and arguments,” he stressed.

On Monday Tengku Maimun exposed that she had received death threats and threats towards the judiciary during a case involving a certain figure.

Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) president Badlishah Sham Baharin said the threats and death threats towards the judiciary is proof that the institution was not respected enough.

" The judiciary is an important institution that ensures everyone is treated fairly regardless of rank, race or religion.

" The institution needs to be respected and protected." he added.

Badlishah said to ensure the matter does not repeat itself, the police needed to take swift action against the

perpetrators.

“This is to prevent those who want to threaten the judiciary to think twice before performing such acts and to bring awareness that such acts will not be tolerated by authorities,” he said.

He added that the separation of powers among legislative, executive and the judiciary must be implemented immediately.

“The government should ensure there is no intervention from the government in the judiciary.

“The people could receive the decision of the Judiciary with an open mind. Don’t insult the decision of the court or make threats. If there are any complaints about a judge’s decision, follow the correct legal channels to voice it,” Badlishah said.
