ALOR SETAR - The 2022 Umno Annual General Meeting (AGM) should be platform to clean up previous mistakes and restore the Malay's trust in Umno.

Umno Youth wing secretary Datuk Hasmuni Hassan said the party should perform a post-mortem to identify the reason why the Malay's rejected Umno in the 15th General Election (GE15).

This has to be done with a sincere and open heart, he said.

“Surely there will be bitter pills to be swallowed. That will be the remedy to restore Umno. Make the current AGM a place for us to reflect and establish a 'mujahadah'(war or struggle to defend Islam).

“Umno representatives throughout the country who will be in the meeting, must come together with one intention to defend, strengthen and dignify Umno as a party that struggles for the Malays, country and religion,” he said, here, on Tuesday.

The Kubang Pasu Umno Division Youth chief hoped concrete and complete efforts must be given to restore the Malay’s ‘big ship’ that is Umno.

“This is to enable Umno to sail the stormy seas. The efforts should be agreed and implemented with the best efforts.

“Moving forward, after the reflection and restoration efforts, Umno must build a complete agreement among each other,” he said.

Hasmuni believed Umno should spearhead the future of mainstream politics to remain relevant as a major party.

“Come sincerely to the AGM because we want to repent from past mistakes, come with an open heart to reflect and with a big heart to carry the party’s struggles,” he said.

He said even if Umno currently contributed towards the country’s administration and development through the unity government with Pakatan Harapan (PH), Umno should also admit towards the reduction of Malay support that recently happened.

"Remember, GE15 witnessed Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) winning only 30 Parliamentary seats and it represented the worst lost in the history of the party,” he said.

He stated the 2022 AGM was the biggest meeting for the party post-GE15.
