PUTRAJAYA - The agreement of 140 Umno division leaders for the party's two highest positions should not be contested in the next election shows that democracy is dead in the party.

Pejuang Youth Chief Muhammad Zulhilmi Mohd She Fee said the action conflicted with the slogans chanted by the party's leaders.

"The attitude shown by them is the same as 'warlords' who try to arrange everything so that their interests and positions are not undermined for personal agendas," he said in a statement.

He said if all efforts to correct Umno internally failed, it would be wise to show the truth of a struggle from the outside.

"I think the time has come for Umno members who sincerely fight for the sake of religion, race, and nation to immediately look for an opportunity to leave the party and form a big Malay tent with Pejuang," he said.

Zulhilmi stressed that grassroots voices are the heart of a party.

Yesterday, Wangsa Maju Umno Chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafie Abdullah said 140 division leaders called for the posts of president and deputy president to not be contested.
