KUALA LUMPUR - "Give us the 30 per cent women representatives that you promised."

This was the demand voiced by Umno Wanita Lumut division chief, Sabariah Zakaria in her speech at the wing's debate at the party's 2022 General Assembly here today.

“We still remember the sweet promises by the President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to give 30 per cent women representative for Wanita in GE15.

“But not only that we didn’t get the 30 per cent, even the Wanita chief wasn’t selected to become one of the ministers [in the Pakatan Harapan-led (PH) government],” she said.

The unkempt promise, Sabariah needled on, was a disappointing and risky move especially during the election year.

In last year's 15th General Election (GE15) on November 19, Umno suffered its worst defeat at the national poll, winning only 26 parliamentary seats compared to the 54 that it won in GE14.

However, the party ultimately managed to form government with PH as GE15 ended in a hung parliament where not a single party had enough numbers to form government on their own.
