KUALA LUMPUR - Umno members were non-committal on what would be the most opportune time for the coming state elections to be done, insisting that the matter is the party's discretion to begin with.

"State elections? Why ask us. You need to ask the Prime Minister instead," quipped Puteri Umno member Nooryana Najwa Najib -- the daughter of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak -- to Sinar Daily today.

The same sentiment was also echoed by party information chief Isham Jalil who maintained that the remaining state elections of Terengganu, Kelantan, Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Negeri Sembilan should have been done in tandem with GE15.

“This is not Umno’s discretion, this is under the purview of the Menteri Besar of Pas and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

"Regardless, Umno needs to calculate a proper strategy to woo back its voter base”, he told Sinar Daily during the 2022 Umno General Assembly (PAU) at Putra World Trade Center today.

Commenting further on the matter, Raub Wanita division chief Zulriyaini Yahya, said that the time comes, the Wanita wing will work to the bones in winning back the votes it lost in thr 15th General Election.

"For example, as we can see in Tioman [by-election], Umno won, even though it’s a narrow victory,

“So it’s important for all Wanita Umno to work together in every division in the country,” she added.

The six state elections were postponed by their respective Menteri Besar due to flood concerns.
