KUALA LUMPUR - Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has announced that he will not defend his Youth chief post in the coming party poll in order to make way for the younger generations to head the wing.

He made the decision in order to take resposibility for his lost in last year's 15th General Election (GE15) at the Gerik parliamentary constituency.

In his winding-up speech at the Umno Youth debate, Asyraf Wajdi apologised for failing to lead the wing throughout his five-year tenure spearheading the wing division.

“I have tried my best to ensure that we rise again, and I gave my heart and soul Umno to the point my wife and kids have not gone for holidays because of time constraints.

“The most important thing is we must see how to rise again. That is why I took the decision not to defend my position anymore,” he said at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) here, today.

Asyraf added that the members in Umno Youth today "is a unique generation" because they went through many challenges as the opposition and also as part of the ruling coalition in the current government.

“Do not even give up, be consistent and state our stand; which is to defend the party no matter the odds," said Asyraf Wajdi.
