SHAH ALAM - The association of umrah travel agencies' has discussed factors that contributed to the increase in the cost of umrah.

In a joint statement issued by the Malaysian Association of Travel and Tourism Agents (Matta), the Association of Malaysian Bumiputera Tour Operators (Bumitra), and the Malaysian Umrah and Hajj Travel Agencies Association (Rapuh), the agencies said the cost of umrah, which is set at RM7,890, can be used as a reference for accommodation packages at a distance of approximately 300 metres.

"This price can be used as a reference by the pilgrims to choose a suitable Umrah package based on affordability.

"The discussion is to help pilgrims and tourism operators manage and make appropriate package choices," it said on Friday.

It added that the price is likely to be higher or lower depending on the location of the hotel, the booking period, the festival season, and so on.

"At the same time, Umrah pilgrims are also advised to confirm the packages offered by tourism operators in advance.

"Pilgrims also need to ensure the company they choose is a licenced umrah operator under the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry (Motac)," it read.

The list of licenced umrah travel agencies can be found on Motac's official website at https://www.motac.gov.my/semakan/umrah.
