KUALA LUMPUR - Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the appointment of Datuk Dusuki Ahmad as the party's Ulama Council chairman.

He said the formation of the council is intended to guide the party onto the right track.

"In the policy speech, I spoke on the need to speed up the establishment of the Ulama Council. The relationship between 'ulama' and 'umarak' (a group of leaders) is an important element to ensure the administration of the country is always guided by the Quran and the Sunnah.

"It is my pleasure to announce Datuk Dusuki Ahmad as the chairman of the Umno Ulama Council.

"Hopefully, with this appointment, religious scholars will guide our journey so that we remain on the right path," he said when wrapping up the presidential policy speech at the 2022 Umno general assembly at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Center (WTCKL) here today.

Yesterday, Zahid who is also the Deputy Prime Minister announced that the party will establish the Umno Ulama Council in line with the party's effort to further expand its influence.

He said the establishment also reflects the party's willingness to forge cooperation among party affiliates and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
