PONTIAN - Simpang Renggam MP Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad states the 10 MPs signing statutory declaration (SD) supporting Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin each has a different purpose and reason.

The Johor Umno chairman said up until this day, he questioned where was the element of betrayal as claimed by certain parties.

“I believe many parties were asking questions and some answered regarding the 10 MPs signing the SDs supporting Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“I could only say that among the 10, all of them had different reasons... some signed because they were upholding the decision of the Umno General Assembly (PAU).

“There were those who signed due to the ‘no Anwar, no DAP’ stance, some rejected DAP, some didn’t agree to Anwar, it’s all different,” he said when met by reporters after the Pontian District Village Chief swearing-in ceremony at the district office on Sunday.

The Benut assemblyman said he agreed with Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s views on where the elements of betrayal were.

“Where are the elements of betrayal? There are no such elements.

“I hope the grassroots look at the issue of SD in the context that would add to the party’s strength instead of weakening the party.

“We saw only two MPs involved made statement about it, and this was due to the statements potentially affecting the party’s chance to win in the upcoming six state election,” he said.

On Thursday, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he was prepared to forgive the 10 Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs, including the parties that signed the SD supporting the PN chairman Muhyiddin as prime minister after GE15.

However, the deputy prime minister said that he, along with the Umno Disciplinary Board would continue to monitor the MPs involved.
