KOTA KINABALU - Four Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) MPs who quit Bersatu after winning in the Nov 19 polls do not have to vacant their seats.

Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah said he received an email letter from Dewan Rakyat speaker Datuk Johari Abdul today.

"Yes, I received copy of the letter from Dewan Rakyat speaker to Sabah Perikatan Nasional chief Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee. It was under Article 49A(1) of the Federal Constitution," he told Sinar.

On Dec 29 last year, Kiandee said Bersatu had sent a notice to the Dewan Rakyat about the vacancies after the four MPs had quit Bersatu.

On Dec 10, the state's former Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and its members left Bersatu. Hajiji has since remained as Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman.

The four parliament members are Matbali, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali (Papar), Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan (Batu Sapi) and Datuk Jonathan Yasin (Ranau).

The Bersatu MPs had contested using the GRS logo before it was revealed on Dec 10 by GRS Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor that all Sabah Bersatu leaders had left the coalition.
