SHAH ALAM - Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan today suggests seven suggestions to reduce the RM1.5 trillion national debt.

Through a brief Facebook post, he listed the seven ways that needed to be done in order to address the issue.

Among them were to increase government revenue, reduce leaks caused by corruption and tighten enforcement such as the elimination of smuggling.

Other suggestions listed were reduction of the black-market economy, increase economic digitisation and avoid any form of waste.

Ahmad was also of the view that a targeted provision of large subsidies could be used to reduce the debts.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday said the country's debt and liability had reached RM1.5 trillion.

Anwar said the matter must be handled immediately.

The Finance Minister stated the country's economic position had yet to stabilise and it was related to global developments.
