SHAH ALAM - Prostituting a wife to stimulate the husband's lust and as an alternative to earn money is among the 10 causes of divorce in this country.

Syarie Legal Consultant and family psychologist Suzana Ghazali some wives just endure the situation as they do want to be labelled as a disobedient wives,

"Eventhough it is only three percent, but such cases exists. They are willing to be used by their husbands because they think they need to be obedient wives.

"However, when they meet me and counselling is given, they usually decide to part ways with their husbands for a better future," she said on Saturday.

Sinar had reported on Friday that the divorce rates were increasing for Muslim couples every year.

Syariah lawyer Nurul Syafawani Rahim said the statistics from the Malaysian Syariah Justice Department recorded a total of 45,420 divorce cases among Muslims that were registered nationwide in 2021.

Meanwhile, Suzana said almost 90 percent of the divorce cases were caused by financial constraints, however this was not one of the main causes.

"Usually a divorce happens when there is a third person involved. In many cases as long as the cheating husbands have not been caught, many wives survive for decades while supporting their jobless husbands.

"Based on the cases I handled, so many husbands let go of the current bills and food expenses for the family just because the wife has a salary, and there are even those who become lazy because all of the expenses is borne by the spouse," she explained.

She said among the other reasons that cause divorces among couples are having problems with the in-laws, failing to value marriage and making the partner a place to release anger.

Suzana also adviced couples who were planning to get married to really understand the meaning of trust and responsibility in a marriage.

"The marriage contract that exists is not only a promise made between a couple but also a promise made with God.

"Perform your responsibilities, take care of your prayers then there will be harmony and happiness in your marriage and life," she said.

On the importance of the pre- marriage course in emphasizing the knowledge on financial management and planning, she said this was a basic thing where husbands have the responsibility of financing the household needs.

"The course emphasizes on this point, Jakim also launched a Post-Marriage Course in 2016 which was improved from two to three days and two nights with various modules," she explained.
