19 drunk drivers arrested in KL this week

KUALA LUMPUR - A total of 19 individuals were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol in Op Selamat 19 from Wednesday to Saturday.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief ACP Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said they were arrested under Section 45 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"In the same operation, we also arrested six individuals aged 16 to 22 for committing dangerous acts and they will be charged under Section 42 of the same act," he said at a press conference today.

Sarifudin said a total of 20 officers and 80 members of JSPT Kuala Lumpur carried out operations around Jalan Bangsar, Jalan Genting Klang and Jalan Ampang.

"A total of 7,998 summons were issued for various offences while 18 motorcycles were confiscated in the operation.

"The Environmental Department will take action and inspect all seized vehicles," he said.

He said that a total of 809 accidents were reported around the city during the same period involving fatal accidents that occurred on the Kuala Lumpur - Seremban Highway and the Sungai Besi (Besraya) Highway.
