58 road fatalities in just four days since Jan 18

KUALA LUMPUR - Over 7,100 accidents involving 58 deaths were recorded throughout four days of Op Selamat 19 during the Chinese New Year break nationwide.

Deputy Director (1) of the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Deputy Commissioner Mohd Nasri Omar said the statistics are from Jan 18 to 21.

"It recorded 58 deaths, 33 seriously injured and 250 minor injuries involving 9,198 vehicles," he said today.

Op Selamat 19 will run for 10 days from Jan 18 to 27 throughout the country.

On Jan 13, the Deputy Inspector-General Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain officiated the launch of Op Selamat 19 with the theme of "Safe Home, Safe to Destination" at Jejantas Restaurant, Ayer Keroh, Melaka (southbound), North South Highway (PLUS).

Throughout Op Selamat 19, cops will also help disperse traffic at congested areas.
