SHAH ALAM - Muslims must come together in solidarity to protest against the burning of the Quran and the insult to Islam at KLCC this Friday.

In saying this, Pas Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yahaya said it is time for all Muslims to voice out strongly against the Swedish government following Islamophobia and related anti-Muslim bias incidents and hate crimes in Sweden.

"I urge all Muslims to come and show solidarity in protesting against this heinous act against Islam at KLCC this Friday. We would also be marching straight to the Swedish Embassy from KLCC.

"Further, I also request the government propose an emergency meeting with the Organization of Islamic States (OIC) to discuss this issue further with other Muslim countries.

"Every diplomatic space must be optimised to firmly object to this action," he said on PAS Dewan Ulamak official Facebook page.

The Pokok Sena parliamentarian also reiterated the position of the opposition leader, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, who urged the government to summon the Swedish ambassador over the burning of the Quran.

"Ironically, it looks like the demonstration led by a far-right politician in Stockholm has the Swedish government's backing, but the act was provocative and insults Islam," he added.

Rasmus Paludan, leader of the Danish far-right party Stram Kurs (Hard Line) was reported to have burned the holy book at a demonstration held in front of the Turkish embassy in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, on Saturday.

Ahmad said this act was not the first, and there have been many similar incidences in the past.

"Last year, there was also a similar incident. Paludan had purposely chosen to commit the act in Linkoping, Malmo and Stockholm where there was a huge population of Muslims.

It was reported that Paludan was permitted to burn the Quran, causing the Muslim world to erupt in anger due to the incident.
