Egg supply 'no longer an issue by Ramadan' says Mat Sabu

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu said the import of eggs will be done according to demand.
He said the egg supply is currently stabilising and it would no longer an issue by Ramadan.
“The egg supply is stabilising, we will only import it on certain situations and we will stop the imports as it stabilises.
"Importing eggs are meant to be a temporary measure,” he told reporters after a meeting with his ministry staff.
Mohamad commonly known as Mat Sabu said there is also shortage at Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA). “The ministry received assurances from local egg producers that they were prepared to ensure there were enough eggs for the market," he said.
Mat Sabu further said the shortage was due to manpower shortage at chicken farms, causing them to produce 300,000 eggs instead of 500,000.
He said the government hopes to boost production after easing hiring of local and foreign workets.
He further said Mydin Managing Director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin’s suggestion to abolish the Chicken Egg Approval Permit (AP) to reduce prices of eggs by up to 10 per cent in addition to guaranteeing the supply, Mat Sabu said it was among the views voiced by several parties.
