KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that a peaceful Malaysia for all citizens is his main priority.

Anwar stated that for Malaysia to be peaceful and prosperous, we must give space to all races.

"Yes, I have the position now, but I will never compromise to ensure this country will remain peaceful, just Malaysia for all citizens in this country," he said at The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) Chinese New Year’s open house.

"Of course, we need to look out for the underprivileged group, where the majority of them are from the Malay Bumiputera background, which will be given attention." he said

Anwar went on to add that he experienced a harmonious multi-racial environment in Bukit Mertajam during childhood.

"We did not need to force anyone to learn then it was just understood, and this is what we mean by tolerance in this country." he said in his speech

Anwar also stated that he is pleased to have friends and colleagues with the same vision, which would make the path to a better Malaysia easier.
