All political donations must be declared - former IGP
SHAH ALAM - Political donations must be declared to enhance transparency and close doors to corruption, says former Inspector-General of police, Tan Sri Musa Hassan.
"All political fundings and donations should be declared, where they are from and how they are spent," he told Sinar Daily.
"If they are not declared, it can open doors to corruption," he said.
Musa said that many political parties refuse to declare donations because they do not want to be questioned, which is wrong and should not be normalised.
"That is why we have to have the law saying that they have to declare these donations, if they are from a legitimate source, then it should be no problem," he added.
It was recently reported that Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said those caught on video handing out money to voters during the 15th general election (GE15) were just giving out charity and not bribing them.
He had said there was nothing wrong with such act and no electoral laws had been broken.
Pas has previously come under fire after video clips of alleged party leaders handing out cash to voters went viral.
