Umno on shaky ground in S'gor state polls despite alliance with PH, says Noh

SHAH ALAM - Umno’s position in the upcoming Selangor State Election is still at risk despite the cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH).

This is if they continue to depend on winning in Malay majority areas, says former Umno Selangor Chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.

He said that although Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) got the chance to remain in government with the collaboration with Pakatan Harapan (PH), the question now is how many seats the party will win in the upcoming state election.

"In my personal opinion, yes, Umno or BN will have a chance to become the government if they work with PH. But how many seats can Umno win? If it wins two or three seats, in the end, we will be on the edge of the bush.

"I’m worried if it took a wrong step. If the distribution of Umno seats only depended on the Malay majority seats such as Sungai Burong, Sungai Panjang and Sungai Tawar that it had won, I’m afraid Umno will be left with only a few seats.

"If Umno is with DAP, what will happen to the Malay majority areas that have been Umno’s stronghold all this time? This might change," he said.

He said this on the Sinar Live programme entitled "Sacked by Umno: Fight or Move On?" conducted by host Hazwan Mokhtar and broadcast live on all Sinar Harian social media platforms.

The former Tanjong Karang MP added that in Selangor, a three-cornered fight should be avoided as much as possible.

"If there is a three-cornered clash, it is over; it is difficult for Umno to win because most of the seats in Selangor are mixed seats.Based on my experience of competing for six terms, I see that if it is not planned properly, it could be very dangerous.
