MACC freezes bank account of Bersatu

The freezing of the accounts is said to be linked to an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of billions of ringgit linked to Covid-19 stimulus packages.
MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki said the account was frozen to assist in the investigation of suspected "illegal proceeds".
Prior to this, Bersatu's Supreme Leadership Council member, Dr Muhammad Faiz Na'aman confirmed the freezing of the account.
He said he believes it was linked to MACC's investigation into RM92.5 billion of government funds during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In December, MACC said to have received details from the Finance Ministry over the economic stimulus package funds in 2020 and 2021 link to Covid-19. The initial investigation found the amount to be estimated at RM530 billion.
Based on that amount, RM92.5 billion involved government funds while RM437.5 billion was not from the government. The focus of the MACC probe was on RM92.5 billion government funds.
Bersatu chief Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has so far dismissed claims that there were misappropriation of Covid funds. He had said the funds under the economic stimulus packages was not in the form of projects that could be misappropriated as most of it was direct cash transfers to the public.
Muhyiddin had further said Bersatu’s accounts were transparent and all accounts were recorded, audited.
