SHAH ALAM - "I joined Pakatan Harapan (PH) not to become a leader, but to continue the journey that I started 40 years ago," said former Umno supreme council member Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

He said he wants to remain friends with other Umno members instead of becoming an enemy after he was sacked.

"If I join Perikatan Nasional (PN), I don't want other Umno members who are my friends to be sacked just because they are my friends.

"The Umno president will terminate anyone who makes the slightest mistake, even if he did not follow the correct procedure, he has the authority," he said during a Sinar Live programme entitled 'Kenapa Pilih PH' or Why Pick PH, conducted by host Hazwan Mokhtar and broadcast live on all Sinar Harian social media platforms.

"I have to 'protect' the friends I want to meet. However, if I join PH, how would he sack anyone when he (Umno president) is bound by the unity government with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim? he asked.

Zahidi who was previously a Perlis Umno veteran leader and fought alongside Arau parliament member Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, was dismissed from the party following his decision to run as an independent candidate in the Padang Besar Parliament in the 15th General Election (GE15).
