SHAH ALAM - Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul deny claims that government appointments are made for his son Mohammed Iqbal, explaining that his son has been working for him for the past 14 years.

English news portal Malaysiakini reported Johari saying that his son had worked with him since he was the Sungai Petani MP.

He also denied the accusation of him practicing nepotism, saying that no official appointment had been made for his son to become an officer.

"Iqbal has been my officer for 14 years since I was an MP, he's now just resuming his duties.

"I am also the one paying his salary, so what is the big deal?" he questioned.

Despite his claim of Iqbal not being officially appointed, the latter’s name appeared on the Parliament’s official website, under the list of staffs attached to the speaker of Dewan Rakyat’s office.

Yesterday, Sinar Daily reported that Johari had allegedly appointed Iqbal as special tasks officer 1.

The appointment was said to have been made days after Johari's assumption of his duties as Speaker on the 19th of December last year but had gone under the radar until now, when questions of alleged nepotism in high public office rages on.
