SHAH ALAM - Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) will negotiate with Pakatan Harapan (PH) as soon as it finishes discussions on the distribution of seats with other component parties namely MCA and MIC for the upcoming state elections.

Selangor Umno chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said the meeting with PH will be finalised after all BN components agree on the number of seats to be contested by BN in the Selangor State Election (PRN) which is expected to be held soon.

"(The negotiations) we leave to PH to think about how we can start negotiations in the spirit of the Unity Government," he said at a press conference at the Muara Group Building on Friday.

Megat Zulkarnain said Umno has identified the seats that will be contested, including the five Selangor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats won in the 14th General Election (GE14).

"We don't need to know the number (seats contested by Umno) now. After it is agreed, then that is the decision we will abide by and we will make sure to compete in the Selangor PRN," he said.

However, he explained that Umno president Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi has already been informed on the number of seats that are expected to be contested at the upcoming state elections.

It was reported that PH Selangor was ready to discuss with BN to prepare for PRN.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari wants to resolve the matter at the Selangor PH level first, including examining several possibilities.

Meanwhile Selangor Umno confirmed Umno Subang division leader, Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah will contest for the position of Youth Chief in the party's election in March.
