KUALA LUMPUR - The Unity Government's first secretariat meeting has agreed to set up three committees to look into communication strategies and elections, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"They are strategy committee, election committee and the political agenda committee to focus and plan on state elections that will be held any time (this year)," he told reporters after chairing the Unity Government's first secretariat meeting at Umno headquaters, Menara Dato’ Onn, here.

The press conference was accompanied by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and other PH top leaders.

Anwar said the election commitee also covers the distribution of seats and focuses on activities to ensure that they have strong base to face state elections in six states.

"One thing agreed which is very positive for me is the agreement and commitment of all parties including Sabah and Sarawak to help as a team," he said.

Meanwhile, Anwar said the committees will also look into the manifesto and the cost of living.

The Prime Minister further said analytical data on the 15th General Election (GE15) was also presented.

He said based on the data, it was concluded that the Unity Government consists of various parties and has the support if two-thirds majority.

"This gives us an advantage and the statement I made is to strengthen our determination to work as a cohesive and strong team.

"This was agreed tonight and not only that, we agreed to form a leadership structure that will meet every month.

He added that the Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof was appointed as the Secretary General of the Unity Government Secretariat while the head of the secretariat will be Umno Youth Chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Anwar said that other party leaders will be members of the Unity Government leadership council.
