SEREMBAN - Palestinian youths suffer from mental health issues due to conflicts happening around them.

"They are shy about sharing their problems, they are living in denial.

"Besides that, also the high divorce rate in Gaza could be a contributing factor why Palestinian youth need are dealing this problem," University College of Applied Sciences deputy head of the Scientific Research Departmentin Gaza, Abeer Z. Barakah told Sinar Daily.

Further, Abeer said other contributing factor for their mental illness because most of them are orphans as they feel they do not have support system.

"For me, as a lecturer, I always asked my students if they are okay or if they need someone to talk to. That’s how I help," she added.

Abeer also pointed out on the shortage of psychologists in Gaza; "Despite giving funds, it will be good if the international community gives their support to overcome mental health issues, such as by sending more psychological activists."

Abeer is one of the guest speakers at the International Conference of Palestine Kuala Lumpur (ICPKL) 2023.

Some 500 international and local delegates attended the first day of conference at the Royal Chulan Hotel in Seremban which will go on until Sunday (Feb 12)

During this conference also, the organisers will be raising fund to support 20 Palestinian prisoners’ families for one year.
