SHAH ALAM - Former World No. 1 shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei has condemned Bong Guang Yik's racist remarks.

Through his Facebook page on Monday, Lee said that in sports, everyone should know to respect one another and reject any form of racism.

"Don't ever, in the pursuit of fame, be willing to destroy the harmony of the people.

"Our unity was not built in a day or two, but over decades.

"Think of him (Guang Yik) as a bad apple, my friends," he said.

Lee also thanked Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who acted quickly to overcome this issue.

"Thank you to YB (Hannah) for the brilliance and swiftness with which she handled this issue," he said.

Earlier, a video went viral on social media about former national badminton player Guang Yik's racist remarks when he criticised the management of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

Currently, Guang Yik, who is also a former BAM trial player, is reported to be residing and serving as a badminton coach in China.
