KUALA LUMPUR - Budget 2023 is a good boost for economic growth, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said in response to the retabling of the budget today in Parliament.

"The budget this time is good for the economic growth of the nation, it responded to global economic challenges and shows the government's commitment to the welfare of the people in line with the Malaysia Madani concept," he said during a press conference in Parliament today.

Fadillah said he was also pleased with the allocation given to the Domestic Trade and Cost Living Ministry.

On another matter, Fadillah lauded the move by Sime Darby in bringing in more local workers with competitive salaries and various benefits.

"The farming sector in Malaysia is mostly dependent on foreign workers.

"Bringing in local workers can lead to many benefits including an increase in exports," he said.

Fadillah also said that Budget 2023 had good allocations for Sabah and Sarawak at RM6.5 billion and RM5.6 billion respectively that could be used to promote development in both states.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that an allocation of RM2.5 billion will be given for the development of public infrastructure including road projects, street lights and water and electricity supply.
