SHAH ALAM - Paya Besar Divison Umno Youth Chief Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah will run for the Umno Youth chief’s post in the party's upcoming election.

Mohd Shahar, who was also the former deputy finance minister, said he wanted to ensure the youth would continue to be at the forefront of the party, especially in regards to the people's issue.

"Umno will surely face bigger challenges and hardships to continue its relevancy as the people's voice after the 15th General Election (GE15) and with current political situations that are highly dynamic and always changing.

"I am determined to make sure Umno Youth members will continue as the party's front line and as the main spokesperson for the people on all issues they faced.

"More importantly, growing Umno Youth at the grassroots level needs to be done immediately to ensure the strength and unity of youth remain intact in order to step forward and become the party's shield," he said in a statement today.

The Umno election was held from last Feb 1 to March 18, and this year's Umno annual delegate conference for Wanita, Youth, and Puteri wings will be from Feb 1 to 26.

The committee representation and election meeting for Wanita, Umno Youth, and Puteri's Movement, along with the exco's election for Wanita, Youth, and Central Puteri Umno, would be held simultaneously throughout the country on March 11.

The Umno division committee representation and election meeting and the supreme council elections will be held simultaneously nationwide on March 18.
