KUALA LUMPUR – Kapar MP Dr Halimah Ali has apologised in the Dewan Rakyat for linking Rahmah Menu to cancer and autism, clafiying that her speech has been misunderstood.

This comes after an MP said that she needs to be referred to Parliament's rights and privileges committee.

But Halimah in Dewan Rakyat said she was only looking into rakyat's interest.

"If my remarks were misunderstood, saya menyusun sepuluh jari," she said as in apoligising for the misunderstanding.

Dr Kelvin Yii (PH - Bandar Kuching) had asked for Hamilah's explanation on her statement.

Halimah was previously reported to have made a controversial speech in the Dewan Rakyat last week that linked the budgeted Rahmah Menu to health risks.

She received flak from lawmakers and the public over her remarks.

Menu Rahmah was launched on Jan 31 by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub as part of the unity government’s short-term efforts to reduce cost of living.

Over 12,000 premises are currently offering Menu Rahmah, including restaurants coffee shops.
