SHAH ALAM - Small traders at AU2 Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur night market hope to remain at the same night market site.

Operating for more than 40 years in the area, some of the hawkers have been operating from the site for two generations.

Trader Nathiman Tahir said hawkers are left with uncertainties after hearing rumours that they may be relocated to Keramat Wangsa.

“We have lost our patients and no longer have confidence with the leadership of the night market association.

“We heard rumours to transfer us but there are no letters from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall through the association or transfer letter from the association,” he said.

However, Nathiman said they have no answer.

He had lodged a complaint to the authorities and had reported the matter to the Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad for further action.

“We want to remain at the current spot and we disagree to be transferred to Keramat Wangsa,” he said.

Meanwhile, hawker Che Hasnah Hashim said their last day to operate was on Feb 26.

Speaking to Sinar Daily, Che Hasnah said they have been operating here for two generations and knew the people.

The new spot, she said was found not suitable to trade. “This could affect our income,” she said.

The night market hawkers received a transfer letter by Kuala Lumpur City Hall on Feb 20 and were told to move to Keramat Wangsa.
