KUALA LUMPUR - Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has described Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's statement that the unity government will fall soon as the latter's own political edict.

Zahid said it is up to the people to judge Hadi's malicious and ill-intentioned dua ( prayers).

"That was his bad dua. I think as a political ulama he has differing fatwas and it depends on the situation.

"The words in the Quran and hadith are the same, but the interpretation differs.

"You can judge for yourself his 'political edict'," he told reporters after attending the Plantation and Commodities Ministry and Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) monthly assembly, here, on Thursday.

Earlier Hadi was reported as saying that the he expected the unity government lead by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to fall soon.

He was reported as saying this during his speech at the National Ulama Dialogue: Facing the Challenges of Today's Media Globalisation organised by Yayasan Permata Ummah, here on Wednesday.

Zahid added that all parties should focus on economic development instead of going about politicking around with no end in sight.

"Set aside the question of differing opinions. If you want to change the government, change it in the next election.

"The last term witnessed three changes of Prime Ministers and Malaysia became a laughingstock for the world. Don't involve yourself in negative politics and burden the people again," he said.

On another matter Zahid who is also the Umno president said he was confident that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) will give an official answer regarding complaints of the top two positions in the party not being contested in the party polls.

"RoS has 60 days from the date of the complaint being brought up to respond.

"However, because March 18 is the date for the division and national level elections, and March 11 is the date for the national wings and division levels, I am confident RoS will provide an official answer before March 11," he said.
