Three Umno Youth chief nominations rejected

KUALA LUMPUR - Three candidates contesting for the Umno Youth chief posts have been rejected. ( 2023- 2026) term.

Umno Election Committee chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said the decision was made because all individuals did not meet the party's constitutional qualifications.

"We rejected the three (candidates) for Youth chief due to (factors of) qualification criteria that did not meet the party's constitution," he said when met by reporters after the drawing of ballot numbers at Menara Dato' Onn, World Trade Centre (WTC) today.

However, Shahrir did not comment further about the three rejected candidates.

At the same time, he also informed that eight candidates will be contesting for the Umno vice president post in the party polls for this term.

Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid were confirmed to be defending their posts.

Other candidates included were three Umno Supreme Council (MKT) members namely Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

The remaining candidates were Simpang Renggam MP and former Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Hasni Mohamad; Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and Iskandar Puteri division Umno member Mohd Yusof Musa@Jamaludin.

In the meantime, six candidates were confirmed to compete fo the Umno Puteri chief post, namely Pandan division Umno Puteri chief Wan Noor Akyilah Wan Shapuddin; Puteri Umno exco Dr Masliha Harun and Puteri Umno deputy chief Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi.

The other three candidates were MKT member Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar; Puteri Umno exco Fadwah Anuwar and Puteri Umno secretary Nurul Hazwani Haslan.

Meanwhile, a total of four candidates will be running for the Youth chief post.

The four candidates were Paya Besar MP Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah; Merlimau state legislative assembly member Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh; Umno MKT members Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah and Meor Hassan Mat Ali.
