KANGAR - Police are investigating the possibility of drug abuse by a lance corporal who shot his wife in Kampung Bendang Baru, Simpang Empat, here, over the weekend.

Perlis police chief Datuk Surina Saad said the cop is under remand til March 12.

She said the 27-year-old suspect is undergoing a health screening in Tuanku Fauziah hospital (HTF), Kangar.

“The drug abuse claim is still under investigations,” she said when contacted on Tuesday.

Kangar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the suspect acquired permission to carry his firearm home as he was still under an operational tasks.

“Although he had clocked out from duty, he was still under an operation permitting him to bring his firearm home,” he said.

Housewife Safsufarnisya Salleh, 26, who was five months pregnant was shot by her husband around 7am on Sunday.

The suspect who worked in the Perlis contingent police headquarters (IPK) Narcotics Crime Investigation Division was remanded for seven days for investigations following Section 302 of the Penal Code.
