There was no such regulations on age limit previously, he said.
"This will be the first thing on my agenda when I officially assume duties as the new chief.
“Previously this was impossible because once anyone holds the position, it will be hard for them to let go,"he added.
"Therefore, for this to happen, let me start it with developing protégés within the Umno Youth," he said, speaking briefly to the media at the Umno building lobby here.
Based on the unofficial results earlier, Dr Akmal obtained votes from 102 of 189 divisions, defeating three other candidates for the post in the party election.
This was confirmed by Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who congratulated Dr Akmal for winning the wing's chief post.
